SocialDiscounts FAQ

With SocialDiscounts you offer your customers to share your store and your products in the social networks in return for a discount. This helps you increase your sales, promote your store and earn your visitors' loyalty. In this article we will answer the most frequently asked questions, so keep on reading.

1. The discount is not applied to the shopping cart. Why?

Most of our clients do not notice that the module is using order total module and therefore, ask us why the discount is not applied, despite the success message in the store front. Basically, what has to be done is this:

Open you OpenCart administration.

Go to Extensions > Order Totals and find SocialDiscounts.

Install and activate the extension.

That should be enough. Now the customers of the store will get the discount in their shopping cart.

Like the discount coming from ProductBundles, in SocialDiscounts we also suggest our clients to set the Sort Order option to 2 in the extension settings, so the customers will see the discount right after the Sub-Total value. In our experience, the customers can be confused if the discount is placed after the applied VAT (if any), shipping taxes or others.

2. Cumulative vs. non-cumulative discount. What is the difference?

Currently, SocialDiscounts support four types of sharing:

  • Facebook Like.
  • Facebook Share.
  • Twitter Follow.
  • Twitter Message.

The module also supports two types of discounts which are cumulative and non-cumulative. This basically means that you can give discount for each share or a fixed discount regardless of the amount of the shares.

Here is an example:

If you set the module to use cumulative discount and set it to $3, the customers can get maximum of $12 discount if they use all four types of sharing.

If you set the module to use non-cumulative discount, the module will give the customers $3 OFF on every case.

3. I keep getting "Error: An error occurred. Please try later" when I try the Facebook share feature. Why?

This often happens when you have configured your Facebook App correctly, but you have not set the application live. Fortunately, this can be done quite easy. Just follow the steps below:

Open your Facebook App settings.

Navigate to Status & Review from the left menu.

Toggle Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public? to YES.

A popup will appear requiring confirmation on which you have to click on Confirm.

You are ready to go. Now the Facebook sharing functionality should work just fine.

Conclusion

SocialDiscounts can do a lot for your store once it is properly set up. Everything is done automatically from the module and you do not have to worry about discounts, messages, orders or anything of that kind. Just make sure that you go through all settings of the module.
